01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Located just outside the east exit ticket gates of Ayase Station, Suruga Ayase Store is a convenient Japanese confectionery shop relied on for gifts and everyday sweets alike. Among its varied lineup, the karinto-style fried manju known as "Kamemanju" commands a dedicated following. Crisp and fragrant on the outside with the feel of fried karinto dough, it encases smooth, lightly sweetened koshian red bean paste. Its compact size makes it tempting to eat more than one.

The signature dorayaki are equally enticing. The Kuri Dorayaki, featuring a soft yet chewy pancake wrapped around a whole plump chestnut, offers hearty satisfaction. The display case also showcases a diverse rotation of variations, from the elegant Ume Dorayaki with its whole sweet-and-sour plum to butter dorayaki and seasonal whipped-cream nama-dorayaki.

Confections featuring fresh fruit bring a sense of the changing seasons. The fruit daifuku bundle juicy whole fruits—such as large strawberries, mikan mandarins, or kiwi—in soft mochi, where the gentle sweetness of the bean paste enhances the fruit's natural acidity. As popular items that can sell out early in the day, they are well worth picking up whenever available.

Venturing beyond classical wagashi, the shop also bakes Western-style sweets. Options include Horus, a moist sponge cake sandwiched with cheese cream or apricot jam; bite-sized Pakutto Cheese sticks; and apple pie lined with thin apple slices. QR-code payment options such as PayPay and Rakuten Pay are accepted, making this a reliable spot for a quick sweet purchase on the go through the station.
